Reading what little I have of this Serangoon fiasco is making me lose my faith in the common good of Singaporeans. A commentary in ST described some of the petition’s thrusts as “rational.”

Rational?

Please.

I think that the morbidly obese should be banned from taking public transport. You know, cos they take up enough space for 3 people, which is so inconvenient. Plus, they seem to sweat a lot which is just disgusting. And what kind of bad influence are they for our kids? I mean, they probably eat lots of fast food and oily food, eww. No, no, it’s best to banish them to – say – some offshore island, where their bad habits and repulsive presence won’t corrupt the integrity of our beautiful society.

Have these people ever thought about what it’s like to be a minority?

I am irked.
